2009 Pirate's Run

Today, I ran my first race - a 5K. It's a start - I knew I couldn't run the 10K for my first, so I started out small.

I started out the morning with a shower, completed my look by blowdrying and straightening my hair, and make-up. You don't want to see my bed-head hair and naked face - I spared everyone! And left the house eating a Rice Krispy Treat - on the top of every runner's list of healthy things to eat for breakfast, right?

First off, it was FREEZING! But, didn't over-dress because I knew I'd get warm VERY fast!

Here's Thomas - he also ran the 5K - finishing in 25:27!

I used my moma's "Gymboss" - which allows you to run/walk and still keep a good pace. I chose to the 2/1 method: run 2 minutes, walk 1 minute. Helped me alot, especially since I knew I couldn't run the whole time!

Here I am coming up on the end. My Papa greeting me to cheer me on! Two more blocks to the finish line - and yes, I sprinted to the finish line - even the the "Gymboss" was telling me it was time to walk. Rule #1: Don't walk across the finish line! I finished in 42:20 (which I can take off about 30 of those seconds since I was pretty far back in the crowd at the start line!)

Mrs. Vicki, my moma, Aunt Laurie, and Uncle Michael all ran the 10K!

Mrs. Vicki...finishing in 1:01:40

Michael...finishing in 1:05:56

Moma...obviously, very excited :) finishing in 1:05:57

Laurie...finishing in 1:17:59

And we finished off our morning with this to eat:

And a massage:

Photos of the runners are courtesy of my sweet Granny who stood on the sidelines along with Papa and Emma cheering us on! Thanks for the encouragement :)
Next up: River Run March 15th!

Great job! You're an inspiration and totally deserved the pancakes and massage. I loved the concept of the run/walk. It tells you when to start running?
